Western Washington Coyote problem

You need some Livestock guardian dogs like Anatolians or Great Pyrenees- at least two if they are going to be dispersing a pack of coyotes. You could keep your birds in a securely built run with covered top wired on the outside with some electrical fencing.

I would love to get a LGD but my husband has bionic hearing and I know he could not handle the barking at night and our property is not fully fenced for a wondering LGD dog. Maybe a Llama is another option? Would they keep a Coyote away?

Only long enough to kill and eat the llama.
Coyote (singular) probably but coyotes (plural) always travel in packs and they'll probably take down a llama.

Are you still having trouble with the coyotes? I live in Pierce county as well and am interested in shooting them for you. I am well mannered, safe and well experienced with a rifle. Let me know if I can help. I'll give my phone number in a private email If you like.

Was curious what ever came of this issue? We have some coming middle of the day with people and dogs present.

So we moved to a different area. Completely built a coop and run from the ground up. I don’t worry about Larger predators getting my birds when they are locked up but, we still have a coyote problem.
It’s actually a more serious problem this time because a resident coyote does NOT run from my dog. He waits till my dog gets about 5-10 feet from him then runs. When my dog stops, it stops. When my dog turns for home it runs after him. They have circled each other but have not actually made physical contact. I know it’s only a matter of time.
I’ve reached out to some people who wanted to trap and kill coyotes in my area but no one has followed through. Next step I think is to find my own trap and take care of the problem myself. Coyote season is year round here.

So the update is, same problem, different area!:barnie
