It's not wet in the bag. It's perfectly dry! I've read a few threads recently where folks mention that their chicks eat the chick starter wet. Do you replace it every day? What are the advantages? Can I add boiled egg to it? Thanks for helping a newbie chick mama out!

I will leave this up to someone that does it every day....I have only made wet mash as a treat and mixed in a little bit of applesauce. I am very paranoid about mold and what not growing, so i removed it after an hour or so and let them continue on eating the dry......but that is just what i have done

I gave my three day olds wet started for a couple days. Don't have to worry about mold, it didn't last long enough to mold. They go after it, I don't know if it's becuase it's easier for them to get down or because it's wet and gives them the food and water at the same time. Either way, the went wild over it.

Most people feed their chicks moistened chick starter if they have a chick that is sick, not eating or as a treat. It makes the food more palatable to them.
You can moisten it with water, milk or yogurt. The consistancy is up to you. And I would only mix up a very small amount at a time to see if they like it. Then I would experiment & find out how much they will finish up in a few minutes & give it as a treat once a day. Giving treats really helps with bonding.
Hope this helps you. Have fun with your little ones!

Thankyou all so much for the helpful responses! I'm going to mix a few tbsp tomorrow with some egg and some water, see how they like it. I'll take pics!

Mine LOVE It....I started doing it because I had 2 small bantams...tiny little ones..now I do it every day even at 8 weeks old....they go crazy for it and eat it all very quickly, nothing left...I use water, quite a bit actually, make it quite mushy, but not soaking wet...try it!
