I just have a question, if coturnix quail get wet, is it bad for them? I know they bathe them selves by digging in the dirt but if they get really wet what happens.
Can catch a cold get a chill messes with them flying from predators , dirt bathing helps with the oil build up and so on plus keeps fleas off lice off and keeps them clean
If they get soaked in the rain they chill easily, so towel them off, get them warm, and maybe even blow dry them. Unfortunately they don’t seem to be as waterproof as chickens are.
I have a handful of Bobwhites which are native to where I live. They live outdoors, and it rains often but they seem to enjoy it. Don't worry, they have plenty of shelter to stay dry if they don't like the rain. The only time my quail prefer to not go out in the rain is when it's cold outside or it's pouring really hard. I'm not exactly an expert on coturnix quail, but I used to have a Texas A&M quail which I adopted from an animal rescue and he lived outside with my bobwhites too.
