My 10 year old went to gather eggs from the nesting box just now and grabbed one that was wet. It looked like someone had poured a drop or two of water on it. One of our older chickens laid it and I’m confused how it would have gotten wet. There is no water near this nesting box. Has this happened to anyone else before? Thanks!

It's probably the bloom as on every egg. She just probably picked it up right after it being laid. Egg shells are porous and the bloom is just a protective fluid to keep bacteria out. That's one reason you shouldn't wash fresh eggs. Unless they are really dirty ( poop, etc)

Could be...egg might have been very warm if just laid.
Bloom usually dries pretty quickly, tho some have very heavy bloom that can stay wet for hours.
