Wet feed

Could someone post pictures of what it's supposed to look like?

Hi MrsJordan....

I have been fermenting feed for my animals for almost 3 yrs now and it's the way to go! A bit more challenging in colder months for me but I make it work. I am feeding ALOT of birds so I use one of the largest tubs from Walmart. ....I put 50lbs of Layer pellets & 50lbs of a 5 grain scratch mix I buy (called Medium Developer Scratch).....trying to find a supplier to get whole grains and do my own mixture. So, I mix all the dry feed.......fill with water to cover everything.....then I use my hand (and arm lol) and mix, be sure everything is mixed from the bottom well. I then add a splash of Apple Cider vinegar (with The Mother.....can get Bragg's at Target). Mix well again and put lid on. I stir once more later in the day. Next morning I have a nice film, mix again, lots of bubbles. Add water if needed (should be super watery). I'll stir 2 times that day......mine is sweet yeasty smelling and ready end of 2nd to 3rd day. I usually leave some fermented feed from the previous batch when I start a new one and I think it helps speed up the process. I have also used some of the yogurt I make as a "starter". There are different methods.....this is just one way and it works for me. I feed this to quail, chickens, ducks, geese and I ferment food for a goat and few sheep as well. My birds love it....eat less, I feed them every other day. They drink less water even in the summer heat, less stools, more egg production, and just seem more content. I have some 3yr old hens who still lay 5 times a week! My Polish & Silkies get a little messy but clean up easily. I also soak chick feed.....I take enough dry feed for the day.....soak with water till its like a thick cream of wheat consistancy. I feed this to chicks and ducklings.....I start adding fermented grains to chick feed after few weeks. My birds do great on fermented feed and I also grow Fodder occasionally which is super easy and very nutritious!

Took pics today but after I stirred.....there was a film on top beforehand. Sorry for the lengthy post......I just know when I started out, it was difficult to get the info I was looking for.

Pics of the bin ( I close it and lock one side).....bubbles after mixing next day...some of my geese enjoying fermented feed. I give most of my chickens fermented feed in the AM....then they free range and find their own food during the day.

I've been fermenting for several days now and while I am not seeing the 30%-50% reduction in feed some people mentioned, it is saving me money. All my birds except for one rooster really love it and clean their plates. Because we tend to be very hot and dry here in the summer I like that they are taking in lots of water at feeding time too. I mix my fermented feed with the cooked mash I make them. It's a pretty interesting plateful of food!
