I guess we forgot to caulk where the Lowe's playhouse sits on the platform in our 4x8 run… it's been raining nearly all day and night for a couple of days and more to come all week, and the water is leaking in and soaking the bedding from 3 walls inward. The rain has been blowing in the front window on the front dutch door, so I tried to block it with a garbage bag behind the door, tucked over to the outside and out the bottom over the solid 1/2 door, same on the side windows with the shutters closed and latched, but there's still water water water. The hens are wet and sad looking, the sand run is soaked and smelly, and I've scooped and replaced wood shavings twice to try to keep them dry. I need a break in the weather to get in there and clean everything out, somehow stop the rain from coming it the windows, and caulk the bottom outside. I think the roof leaks in one place, too… there's one wet spot near the center of the floor of the playhouse. Any ideas how to best waterproof this hen house? I guess the run is just exposed and will have to dry out when the sun comes back out.
*These hens are wet also because they stopped hopping up on the roost

Wow. Is the water coming in at the seams?Could they be caulked? Could you put some weatherstripping around the door and windows? You can get the self-adhesive type that is sort of squishy, so it molds to your window/door. Is the rain blowing in or is it coming down off the roof? Maybe a little gutter to curb the waterflow? I'd bet you could score a short piece like that for free if you just called around. Even a piece of PVC pipe cut in half would work. Just some ideas. Good luck. I imagine this is so frustrating!!!

PS - Your coop/run is really cute!

Hi CityChook, I just checked back in… yes, the rain is blowing in AND seeping under the edge of the house where it meets the platform. I definitely need to get some flashing or something over the windows, and weatherstripping might keep some of it out along the edge of the windows- good idea. I can't caulk until this rain stops. For tonight I think I'll pull out the hens and put them in a travel cage so they can dry off and not be so miserable- it's just an irony that these are the 3 hens I have to put down because of Marek's (hubbie hasn't had time this past few days, but it's inevitable

I still need the house to stop leaking for future use, but these girls are so damp now I feel badly for them… the RIR's haven't had any real problems with their smaller coop, so it's just this one. I wonder if putting shingles over the roofing that's on there will work as well as insulate the house a little more?
