While we're anxiously waiting to see if any of our black australorp eggs hatch after receiving battered eggs through the mail ( 3 more days on that!) we met up with Heather and Troy aka Howlingwoodsfarm, and got 12 peeps today!! The rooster is a barred rock. The hens are white leghorns, brown leghorns, barred rocks, dominique, black australorps, blue laced Red wyandottes and easter eggers, so they'll be mixed breeds. We've got 10 black ones, 2 white. They are adorable.
We got them home safe and sound through a whopper of a thunderstorm (with more hail than I've ever seen), and they're eating, drinking and sleeping down in the brooder we have set up for them in the den.
I've got a few pics now and will post more as they grow- for input on breed/sexing from all of you eggsperts!
General view of the group.
You can see the one on the right with some food in his beak--"action" shot!
One of the white peeps!
Ahhhh..... sleepy time!
