We've got permission!

We are moving to a nearby town which has stricter laws than here in Nashville/Davidson County. According to the town's code, we have to have permission from the director of health. So dh contacted the town's authorities and the director of health sort of made it her own personal crusade that we should be allowed to bring our chickens with us to our new home (which is in an older neighborhood with no HOA). She told us later that when her boss started fussing about it, she said "for heaven's sake, Bob, we've got cows roaming around on hwy 96 - we're just talking about a few of the cleanest chickens you've ever seen!"

She has mailed us a letter of consent with a few stipulations added (no roosters, must be well kept and not roaming about willy nilly, etc., etc.)

Just wanted to share our success story.

Wow, I feel lucky that our little town in KS just passed an ordinance that allows poultry in backyards. Only real stipulation is that they must be 75 yards away from neighbors. I have gotten around that because my neighbors have 2 little girls that love to watch the ducks. I will have my new pen right up against the fence so they can also feed them.
