I know this forum is just bursting at the seams w/ "where are my eggs" posts, but where are my eggs? I've got three RIR who are 21 weeks. One of them has been doing eggs squats for a little over two weeks for me when you pet her. Now, when you just get close to her she does them. Two of my girls have really red combs and waddles. They are big and plump girls who look ready to lay. I've even checked their vent (hubby thinks I'm crazy).

I know they're tired of me stalking their nesting boxes. But, now Ida Claire (my one that is closest to laying, I think) is spending LOTS of time in the nesting boxes. She's scratching around, making little nests and she is just sitting in there for extended periods of time this morning. She seems very precoccupied and restless. Tell me we're getting closer. I just thought that by 21 weeks and w/ RIR, we'd have eggs by now. The funny thing is that the other birds keep getting up in the nesting box w/ her and don't really know what she's doing. I think it's cute and will be relieved when they're all on the same page. Ya know?

It happened just moments after I typed this! Wahoo! I had called my hubby earlier in the day and told him that I thought today was the day. The poor little chicken spent about 30-45 minutes in her coop just panting in the July heat here in NC. I felt like her midwife, but could do nothing to help her out. She came running out and we found the most perfect little brown egg EVER! I was so excited! Here is my daughter w/ the egg and Miss Ida Claire in the background. I threatened my dear child within an inch of her life if she dropped this most perfect egg and she STILL smiled for me!

I know exactly how you feel! We got our first eggs a few weeks ago and my kids insisted on holding them. I kept yelling "Don't drop them!"!!! It's so exciting to get an egg. I have three hens laying and when I go in and find an egg, it's the best! My Ameraucana just started laying this week and now we have blue eggs. It's so fun! And great for children. My kids are having the best time. Congrats on the egg!
