WHAAAATTTTTT?

I have some Production Blacks, which look exactly like Plymouths or Barred Rocks, but lay white eggs. Good chance is one or more of that breed was added to your order either by mistake or intentionally if there werent enough Plymouths to fulfill your order. Where did you get yours from?

I don't have any pictures of the flock but they are definitely all Plymouth Rocks. They all came from Cackle Hatchery at the same time. No white earlobes. No other breeds. I think valeriej may have the answer as it is probably due to being a first egg. They are just starting to lay. Out of the 31 hens I have gotten 15 eggs a day so if that reasoning is sound I may see more. I've only had brown egg layers in the past and all have only given me brown eggs but anything is possible, I guess.

Ted,

You made me do some research as I had never heard of those 2 breeds before. Interesting! Yes, they are remarkably similar to Plymouth Rocks in almost every way. I ordered from Cackle and they don't carry those breeds apparently and according to what I pulled up just now both are extremely rare so I doubt if Cackle would sell them for the price of Rocks IF they had them.

I'm tending to go with valeriej's response that since it was a first egg for my girl it may have some mutant (my words!) shell color pigment.

Thanks for the education on 2 more breeds!
