What’s happening to her eggs

If it were my hen I’d try keeping her and see how it goes. I’ve read here many instances where people have had to isolate a bird for many weeks due to illness or injury. You’d just have a different reason for the isolation - and the hen doesn’t know not care what the reason is.

You have a plan to get her into a flock within a specific period of time.

Now if I saw my hen getting depressed or acting off during the time she was alone I’d immediately look to re-home her - hopefully as a temp situation but permanently if that was what was best for her.

Good luck to you both!

Thanks. I'd like to keep her but because I will be in and out of town for 6 weeks or so I don't want to acquire any new chicks right now. I appreciate your input. Thanks

Do you think she would be okay without other hens for six weeks? At that time I could introduce some chicks to her as her new flock.
I think she'd survive. If you could spend as much extra time with her as possible that would help. If you're in and out of town I guess just be with her when you're around.

And when you do get the new babies be sure to follow the proper introduction protocol. If you just toss them in together you're gonna have dead babies. (Weird, since you'd think she should be happy for company. Chickens, right? :idunno)

I agree, she can be al9ne for a time. For six weeks you can be her social life. My big question is what got her friend and how can you protect this one from the same fate? Any chance you can bring her inside till you get more protection and new friends? A spare bathroom? Chicken diapers?

Not sure what got her sister which was my fault as I let them hang out in the yard during the day. In the eight years that I’ve had chickens I’ve never had a problem before. Famous last words.

Since I will be away more than home I can’t keep her in the house.

A friend has offered to keep her with his three hens and I’m not sure if that is worse than letting her stay alone.

Oh I just saw this bit of info. Hmmmm. Very good question.

Also, your weather is looking, well, dangerous! That opens up loads of questions. Bottom line, be safe, both of you!

I have a neighbor that will check on the hen everyday.

Thanks, it’s just the beginning of hurricane season

Honestly might be worse. It could take that long to integrate her, plus if we’re following strict bio security measures she shouldn’t come back to your house because she could have picked up diseases. I’d just have your neighbor check on her/feed and water her.
