I really hope it’s something with the egg, I’m going to check her out really well tomorrow and redust in 10 days...... I just cleaned out the coop yesterday.....new shavings, permethrin on the roost, diatomaceous earth in the nest boxes, etc

I had noticed those little things on one of my Golden Comet’s egg too. I thought they were parasite egg also. Freaked me out. I scratched them off and they were crunchy calcium balls. I haven’t seen any since that day.

Yes, they're not really attached so you can brush them off with your fingers. My chickens have occasionally laid such an egg. I've also had the occasional sandpaper egg in which the excess calcium is attached and all I can think is "ouch, that must have hurt coming down!".

The new layer I mentioned earlier in the thread is the only hen that lays eggs like this but she does it often and they're definitely blue like her egg and much like what you're describing. They do brush off easily with my finger but it's quite obvious they're calcium when I crush them between my fingers.
