Will they brush off with a soft, dry toothbrush?

Yes, they're not really attached so you can brush them off with your fingers. My chickens have occasionally laid such an egg. I've also had the occasional sandpaper egg in which the excess calcium is attached and all I can think is "ouch, that must have hurt coming down!".

The new layer I mentioned earlier in the thread is the only hen that lays eggs like this but she does it often and they're definitely blue like her egg and much like what you're describing. They do brush off easily with my finger but it's quite obvious they're calcium when I crush them between my fingers.
