What’s with this beak?

At first (from a couple feet away) it looked like she was missing the majority of her beak. Closer up, it doesn’t exactly look like that but it still looks like something happened to it or it’s growing weird. Any ideas?

sorry the head on isn’t super clear. The lighting is really low atm.

Ouch! That looks painful! Does the chick seem to be in distress? I would agree that the top layer of her beak broke off, would you have any idea why? How long has it been since you noticed it?

I have a feeling it will probably grow back without any assistance, though

I had a chicken who broke her beak, right around the same area that yours did. She healed fine, with no interference from me whatsoever. Just make sure she is eating and drinking

She does not seem to be in any distress. Not sure how long it’s been like that, this is the first I’m really noticing. I spend a good deal of time with them and she never had any bloody or anything like that. Not entirely sure how it could have happened. She is in a large dog kennel with 11 other chicks. The inside of the kennel is lined with nylon screen. There the water and food containers are plastic. And like I said, no blood. Her beak had not turned black yet, so it wasn’t terribly obvious.

Ok, I figured it out. This pic is in the car on our way home from getting her. It was injured that day (looks fresh) and I’m thinking that her beak has just been growing out since. This pic was March 12th.

If she doesnt appear to be in pain and is eating and drinking fine, I'm sure it will eventually grow out. I believe chicken's beaks are the same as toenails or fingernails in that they dont stop growing.
