What’s wrong with my favorite hen?

If I have a hen who I suspect is broody, and I don’t want her to hatch, I break them for about 5 days in a pen on the ground with no bedding. A roost if good if there is room, and I put some items to peck on the ground.

I had to do that with one of my older hens! It worked in one night!
I have 5 barred oegb arriving any day now from a hatchery (I’m rooster heavy and needed girls.) Can she take the chicks? The way she’s sitting right here, she’d sit in the brooder, but can I keep her from the flock that long? Would she raise the babies or just sit on them 🤷‍♀️
She just ate a bit more and had another very watery poop. I still can’t get her to drink. Back in the box she went!!

I’ve definitely been played. She just had some water, a bit of food and another watery poop. She jumped back into the box and within 10 minutes found her old egg (from the refrigerator!) and tucked it underneath her! She’s had quite the spa day! 🤣 Dixie Chick must have spent some time with my human daughter learning these tricks! 🤔😆Best case scenario! I’m actually relieved! Thank you for the support everyone! ❤️🐣

They are sneaky sometimes!!! :) Glad to hear she's ok! Keep an eye on her though. If you're lucky, she might even thank you for the "spa day" when nobody else can here her :) :) :)

I have a hen who’s acting similar as well! Unfortunately, I don’t think she’s broody. I have a new flock (they all hatched between April 7th and April 15th) and no one has laid but Daisy is the smallest of the bunch and is getting pecked by the biggest hen and now has a bald spot on her back.
However, she’s also puffing up and standing almost straight up and down a lot and everyone is on the roosting bar except for her and she squats to poop frequently and a tiny little piece comes out. She hasn’t gone in her nesting box at all but she is eating and drinking. Not sure what’s wrong :(

Whenever one of mine is acting strange one of the first things I do is give them the calcium treatment. I do it immediately as soon as I notice them not acting all right. It is almost always the thing that does the trick! Good to get on it as soon as you can, because by the time you notice a chicken not acting right, usually there is something definitely wrong.

Thanks! I feel so bad for the poor girl sleeping alone, feathers missing on her back, and I think her right leg is bugging her. Tough day for Miss Daisy Duke!
