What a way to wake up...

He sure was proud of himself, his whole stance and how he walked changed when he was belting out his crow.
Is it normal for them to get pecky toward the other chickens, hen included? I have been wandering in and out of the livingroom all morning and I notice he is pushier toward Fred and Barney and will peck the hens who will then either crouch down or jump at him. What is he doing?

I got four bantam chicks from a friend. (they were about 2 months old when I got them) They were all supposed to be females. About 2 weeks after I got them three of them started crowing. -_-
My dominant roo started pecking before he started crowing. He tried to kill what is now my pet chicken, Oliver, his brother. The whole back of his head was pecked away before I saw them. But he was crowing a few days after that.

You will need to watch out for him with the others. He will probably consider himself dominant now and that might be bad, especially if he's already pecking some.

would a roomier nursery help any? The one they are in now is expandable, just need to build two more sections to add on, which does not take that long since it is constructed out of PVC pipe and chicken wire

Do you have older hens to put him with for a little bit to knock him down a notch?
If not he may need a time out.

He thinks he is all that and without a daddy or older sister to knock him about a bit he could be as bad as any teenage boy with too little to do and too many hormones.

You might want to put him out with the big girls (with supervision of course) just to show him he's not the biggest fish in the sea. Those roosters get a big head if left to themselves!
Even my adult roo tries to show me who's boss sometimes. They have to get knocked down every now and then. Literally.

Then you'll have to keep a close eye on him. They can do some damage pretty fast. I have one I'm watching right now too. He's definitely to dominant one, and he doesn't exactly have a friendly, gentle look about him. :\

Thanks for the help. I will monitor him closer just to play it safe. Can't have any of them getting hurt, I still haven't figured out which of the boys to keep.

They are so cute when they first learn to crow. My BB Red roo, Eugene, still only gets a screech out and he is almost 3 years old. I have learned that each and every roo I have had or currently have has a very distinct crow. I can tell from inside the house who is crowing. The worst offender is my newest little boy, Lil Man. He sounds like he is saying ont huh! He crows all day long! I think he is trying to get the rooster at my neighbors house to answer him. Once I hear an echo from down the road Lil Mann gets quiet.

There is assimilations and my DH would tell you I am definately out in space.
mechanical implants.... not yet..... someone out there want to get working on that? I think a BYC app for my iphone would qualify!

Beauty Buffs good to know there are others like me out there. (I put the DH in that group too, he grumbles about the chooks, but I can tell he loves them too.)
