You had some of the same thoughts that I had. I wondered too if he isn't getting rid of his roos to a unsuspecting newbie. Also if she isn't being fed a load of baloney by whoever has told her $45-50 bucks per hen. Only people I've ever known to get that have show quality lines....or at the very least very nice breeder lines.

I am not trying to be mean being as negative about it as I am.....just realistic. It's just that I've got more than a little experiance with chickens and I really don't think the people she's talked to are being straight forward with her. She's only had chicks for a month basically and I really think she has no idea how much time, feed and coop space it's going to take to do what she wants to.

I don't know of any RIR's that go for $45.00 each around here and I am about 10 miles from you....If so, my RIR flock is worth about $1200.00!!!! WOW!!! The most I've ever sold my RIR hens for was $12.00>>>You have that much in feed by the time they get laying age! $45.00???????????????? Don' think so....

Money still flows more freely in So Cal than it does in a lot of areas, and top dollar for a POL RIR would be around $30.

Maybe try buying just one hen and selling it to test the market.

Actually, you wouldn't even have to buy the hen, just advertise hens for $45 dollars and see if anyone calls. You can always say "sold" and get their number for next week, go buy you a $12 hen and make your $33 and sell that hen!

I have gotten hens for very reasonable and sold them for $30 each, and now I wish I had them back! Some nice blue feathered BLUE egg layers, mixed breeds. If someone I sold to said Hey, want your birds back? I'd buy them today for the same $.
