My son's new showmanship bird freaked me out this morning!!! We had her shipped from Ohio, and have had her 2 weeks - she is AWESOME, and in quarantine, like she should be. And he has his first show with her THIS weekend. She laid her first egg (at least her first for us) yesterday. Every morning when we leave, she is right at the front of her pen, greeting us good morning.

She wasn't there this morning! So, I opened the door and climbed in...she is laying in her nest box, breathing hard, her comb is paler than it was yesterday.....***ahhhh! Freak out time!!!******

So, I brought her into the house in a dog crate (I had to take my son to school) and stopped at the store on my way home for some plain yogurt and baby food. I got home, and what do I see in the crate? AN EGG! And a perfectly normal chicken! WHAT THE HECK?!?!???

Anyone else ever have a chicken do something like that??

I had been thinking maybe she was having a problem laying while I was driving this am, and that was the first thing I was going to check when I got home, but the egg was even smaller than the one she layed yesterday...hmmm...weird...

Happened to me the other day.My AmeracaunaXJersey giant hen was in the back of my golf cart and she looked like she was dying(Me not knowing it was her first egg!!)So I sat with her for a while and all of a sudden"PLOP"!!An egg. And of course she pecked at it,made a hole in the egg,and ran back to the coop.So I cracked it open(This is the weird part)It was a Double Yolker!!

WOW didn't expect that

That's cool that she laid her first egg with you! That's actually pretty common for pullet eggs to be double yolkers. You should see the size of the double yolker my EE laid when she first started up!!

I am wondering if her egg she laid yesterday isn't maybe a double - it's really round.
