What a wonderful sound!

I had gotten rid of all my little roos when I discovered they were roos because I didn't want to upset the neighbors with the noise early in the am.

Saturday, I spotted "Bob" out in the yard doing some yardwork and asked him if he would keep an eye on the house and yard as I was going to kidnap my husband for a weekend of camping and swiming. He asked if there was anything he needed to do for the chickens, told him no that they were good to stay in the run and had plenty of food and water for the 2 days I would be gone.

After I was packed and ready to go, I went out to round up the "girl" so that I could hit the road. "Bob" hollars over, let me see you chickens. He has never been over to see them, just from his yard. Good thing is he really likes birds in general. He has several large Parrots and a few cockateils. He was impressed about how big and good looking they were. Then he asks about a rooster.

Get this!

He was so hoping I had a rooster as he was looking forward to hearing it crow!!

All this time I was doing without just to keep the neighbors happy and this one wants one to make noise.

I'm now looking for a roo to make him happy!!

Well if he owns large parrots it is no wonder he likes noise.

Can't get much louder than a large Macaw. You can hear them from upto 5 miles away....

My free exotic chick from McMurry is a Silver Spangled Hamburg. He started crowing (if that's what you want to call it) on Sat. He was 8 weeks old that day. My DH said no roosters, but as my DD and I were discussing where to rehome him, he said we should wait and see how bad it is.

i have probably around 15 roosters right now. i think the hens make more noise then the boys with their cackling when they're about to lay an egg.

my roosters start crowing about 4.30am. so i've been told. my neighbor, who is eldery, gets up around 4am. she says she knows when it's 4.30am cuz one of my roosters starts crowing. she said it messed her plan up one day when he didn't crow till 4.45am.

my other neighbor says she doesn't like hens cuz all they do is poo on everything. and she also says she likes the crowing of my guys.

OH! I love my roosters crowing! I only have one boy who crows consistantly. My 'purse chicken' crows if I get him out and Sicily isn't around, otherwise, it's the Sicily Show. Hubby was AGAINST roos until he's gotten accustomed to the crowing. Everyone loves the crowing! Sicily hops up on the milk crate each morning and acts like he is the most important, beautiful thing around. Hubby is now wanting me to find a way to keep the roosters (he's squeamish about eating fertilized eggs), even though he initially wanted me to re-home them.
