What about a coop?

What about a chicken coop makes it a good chicken coop?

I am making plans for building a new coop this coming Summer in June. I really need good ideas, materials ect.

windows for light, warmth
minimum 4 sq ft per bird
secure against predators

It will hold about 6 chickens with a max of 9

I like a coop that has a storage area connected to the coop for tools, food and medicine. Some people build two-room coops.

I also like coops that have a place to gather the eggs from outside the coop. If you look at some of the BYC coop pages, you'll see what I'm talking about. A lot of people built nestboxes with outside access.

If you can get electricity or water out to your coop, that is helpful, too. Electricity will allow you to have a light out there. Chickens need a lot of light in order to lay eggs year-round.
