Ok so on to the reason I made this thread. On June 5, we found this kitten in our garage and rescued her bc she was starving and crying loudly. Here she is when we found her

I am wondering at what age can kittens be spayed. We believe she is a female. Here is some pics of her now,

The last pic u can see the other cat that hangs around but the one I’m talking about is the one fully exposed

Give this article a read.
There is controversy but vets can spay and neuter when the cat is at least 2 pounds.

I think it is safe to make the appointment.

I adopted a retired cattery queen who wasn't spayed until she was 5. She developed breast cancer at 14. Thankfully, she survived the surgery and I still have her at just over 16 yrs old.

No one here thinks you're a weirdo! Welcome back chicken lover!!

I rescued a couple of boys a few years ago, the vet prefers to wait until they're older, I think it's about 14 weeks. But they did neuter one of my boys at 8 weeks because he had other medical issues.

I would plan on getting her spayed before mid September. You want to be sure you do so before she goes into her first heat. Pregnancy is very difficult for a young cat, and you don't want to bring more kitties into the world, since it's obvious there is also a problem with that in your area.

There may be some discount programs in your area. Call your local HS and ask if they can direct you regarding that.

BTW, welcome back to BYC, be sure you don't disclose any info about your age or where you live. Be cautious about any pics that you post that they don't have any visible land marks that could disclose your location. Stay safe on social media.

I believe in spaying but I do not believe in very early spaying because it can cause problems later in life. I would say about five months or so. I have a Ragdoll male kitten and I will get him neutered when he is six months. According to the breeder's website she suggests spaying between five and six months of age. My vet says the same thing.

Hello. I worked for an animal shelter for over eight years. Eight weeks is generally correct. From what I have seen, this animal as seen in the first pictures is old enough to spay/neuter, though only a vet can determine that. Some SPCAs spay/neuter at deep discount to private practice (mine was about $50, free through mobile spay-neuter), whereas others charge private vet rates. Check your county and the ones nearest it.
