What age can you introduce chicks to the adult chickens?

I tried introducing 3 month old pullets (1 BuffO, 1 BlackSL) into my neighbors flock of 3 redSL hens and 1 Old English Game bantam rooster. The hens didn't even seem to notice the pullets but the rooster went hog wild. I don't know if he was trying to mate or what but it was brutal. After 3 days I brought them back home. We will try again in another 8 weeks.
Good luck!

My Orpington Broody and her two chicks have been separated from the rest of the flock from hatch. They are in the next pen, so are in constant eye contact. The chicks will be 3 months old next week. One of these days, I'll move them in with the 6 hens that comprise the laying flock. They killed one of the chicks at a day old, so they were moved. Next time, I'll move the broody at the start of the incubation.

I'm a brand new chicken owner. I have two babies that are 5 weeks old and two that are 2 weeks old. I keep both groups in separate cages in my garage and keep the temperature about 80. The youngest ones are under the bruder light. They are next to each other for two weeks now and I think your comment of allowing them to hear and see, but remain separate is good. Since there are three weeks difference in age between the two groups, at what age do you think it would be safe to put them together in one area?

I am wondering what you mean by one peck and chick is gone...do you mean dead, or it runs off and all is well again?

How do you keep the new "flock" separate for 12 weeks? They would be too big for the brooder and we just have a home coop big enough for about 6 ... so no room for separating.

I'm glad to hear there is a possibility of adding to an existing flock in case of death, etc.

Thanks for response!
