What age can young male be put with desperate adult female

Thank you for that. Guess they know what they like lol. Just hope I’ve got it right now as you did in the end. My other pairs I’ve put together as pairs if the same colour and they’ve all settled immediately. Only slight nagging doubt is that these eggs were bought in and I wonder from a bloodline perspective if it would be healthier to put different colours together in case same are related? What do you think? Although they’ll probably not settle now! Thanks again for your reply.

What colours are they? How many pairs are there? Were the eggs all from the same breeder?

Hi, yes all from the same breeder who has a lot of different colours. Had a dozen eggs and hatched 8. 4 makes 4 females. In pairs for colou except one white (male) and an extra std brown female.

Those quails are so cute! I love those mutations.
Do you know whether they were from the same parents or not? Does this breeder have lots of pairs? If the breeder has a lot of pairs, the quails that are the same colour could possibly be related, but it's hard to know.

That’s not all of them but they don’t all like posing.

i got the eggs from someone on eBay. I’ll try contacting them to find out. Do you know what the colour is called of the two with the white faces and black eyes?

I'm not entirely sure what mutation that is, but @blackoaktammy will probably know.

Just curious, what country are you in? I'm in Australia and there aren't as many mutations around here.

Thanks for tagging me @Quailobsessed. I'm dealing with some serious health issues and I'm not on very much at all.

The chocolate bird with a white face is a blue face. Looks to me like a hen. The other bird is a red breasted. Red breasted take a lot longer to come into full color, but I believe I saw blue feathers on it's chest, which would mean it is a male.

From what I have observed in my own breeding, the white throat appears to be the work of a gene unrelated to color pattern. I know another breeder who says this is an expression of the bird carrying the tuxedo gene, but I am not convinced. I do not have tuxedo in my lines, but I occasionally get these white throated birds.

Oh no, sorry to hear that.
Thanks for the input, hope this helps the OP

I’m in UK. Mid country is best for CPQ. I’m in Essex in the south and they are few and far between. Hence I got a dozen eggs to replace one quail that died lol. I find them do interesting to watch tho. They live in my office ... I’ve four enclosures now. Watch this space if they hatch babies
