My Black Sex Links (Black Star is one of the labels under which hatcheries such as Murray McMurray markets them) typically start laying from 20-24 weeks, sometimes a little earlier. I think that the earliest that I ever got an egg from one of them was 17 weeks. I have raised them for years and they have consistently been my best layers, giving me 6 (occasionally 7) eggs per week per hen.
