Hey everyone 👋,

I'm not sure what the correct term is, but at what age do peacocks start the calling sound that they make a lot during mating season? I thought it would be at least two years old, but I have a yearling pair of India Blue's and I heard him the other morning making the sound. I've only heard him that one time in the month that I've had them. I love the sound and live on 62 acres, so no neighbors to complain 😂. I've had lots of peafowl in the past, but sold them all several years ago and now just starting over. I just can't remember when my younger peacocks before started calling. I thought they were older than one though. Also, I know he should have his train by next year, at age two, so I'm assuming it will grow all summer? It's already getting green in it. If it does grow all summer, will he lose it this fall like the older one's normally do? It's been more than 10 years since I've had yearlings, so I can't remember. I always had older and hatched and sold the younger one's before. Thanks so much for your answers.

Thank you, I really like them. Mine are pretty quiet too, until a squirrel gets into their pen to eat the sunflower seeds I mix in with their feed. Then she starts honking 😂. She actually chases him out. I love the sound the males make though. I know some people hate it, but that's part of having peafowl.

Mine start around two but older males keep them kind of cowed until they're big enough to not get canned if they try to start something.
Thank you. I was thinking around two as well. He's my only male right now. I was surprised to hear him at such a young age. 🦚
