What age do roosters have to be to breed

You don't say how old the roo is, and it can vary by breed. I have EE and mixed breeds, they usually start trying at 4 months, and don't get very good at it until 6 months.

my 10 week old lakenvelder has been hard at it for more than a week.

My son's little silkie "Jack" just started attempts... he's 10 weeks. He looks like he's about to do a leapfrog... and then he kinda somersaults off. (He's not very graceful about it.)
I actually separated him from the silkie hens... I was afraid he's end up breaking their necks!

I got chicks from my bantam cochins at 7 months old. I don't know when he started mounting the girls, but by 6 months, he was fertile for sure.

We got our roo at 5 months old and i wasn't seeing fertile eggs for about a month when he was 7 months old i threw 6 eggs in the incubator 5 were fertile and hatched only one wasn't fertile and thats our RIR that freaks out when anyone gets within 5 feet of her.

My EE roo is about 20 weeks (no eggs yet from his sister). He doesn't crow yet, but he has been mounting some of the girls for about a month now. I noticed the bullseye for a few weeks & set an egg about two weeks ago to see if it developed since he is young. It is developing:)
