Around what age have you noticed the egg laying to stop/slow down? My big girls are going on their third summer.

It slows down after about 1.5-2 years

Stops or is extremely rare at 8-10 years

I have three 6 year old hens who aren't laying anymore. But boy, they sure can eat!!

I have some 6 year old hens that still lay. Not daily, but they lay. Later in the year I'll be doing some isolating of hens to see who lays how much.

My husband TRIED to give me the "talk" about when they aren't holding their own. I laughed... when you see me and run as fast as you can to get to me, then maybe we'll talk about it, until then you know my answer!

The big boys replace there hens every year, but most backyard chickens can justify there feed costs for three years, then you should consider new chicks.
