what age do you stop breeding a hen?

I am buying a very nice hen that is 3 for reproductive egg purposes not eating. what age do they stop producing. is three to old to be buying. should i buy a younger chicken? she is not cheap because she is a multiblue ribbon winner.

I have heard after two years they start to slow down .. but i know others who have five or six year olds that still lay reguraly.. I would guesstimate maybe one good year of egg laying ...
