They should start laying really soon. About 5-6 months is right.

You can add a rooster when they start laying, it might be a good idea to wait a month or so for them to get used to laying because that can be a stressful time and adding a new bird to the flock will just add to the stress.

It's always a good idea to do a quarantine on any new birds you add to the flock, to make sure they aren't carrying anything that could be harmful. After the quarantine, you can then separate the new roo from the hens with a fence so they can see but not touch. Do that for a week or so and it'll make introductions much easier.

Oh lucky you! 19 weeks should start laying in about a week or so. Put out the oyster shell as soon as you find your first egg. As for the roo, get him now,but dont let him run with the girls yet. This would be a good time to get him and let them "talk" through a fence. In about 3 or 4 weeks, let him in with them. My second set of babies are only about 15 weeks.....seems like forever before we will be getting new layers! UGH! At least I have the RIR 1 yr olds laying for now.
