We got 6 little chickies yesterday..They have a brooder set up, fresh and clean food/water/bedding.. 4 of them have died already :( 2 died in the middle of the night, one started being very listless today and wasn't eating or drinking so I tried to give her some pedialyte, she looked like she would pull through and then she passed away. The 4th one has been GREAT all day..until about 30 minutes ago she was looking listless..and now she is gone too. What is wrong with my chicks??

What is the temp of the hot side and the temp of the cool side? (hot birds drop over dead/ get listless, sleep and don't wake up, cold birds chirp and complain, shiver and fluff)

What type of food, when did you by it, how is it stored, what did it smell like? (old and moldy food is toxic)

What bedding? (some types are bad for birds)

Where did you get them? A private person, a feed store? (My feed store has a replacement policy within 72 or so hours for new people and up to a week for people they know.)

We don't have a thermometer, but for the most part they've seemed happy and healthy. They did seem at one point like they were getting a little warm so I raised the lamp up. Their food is chick starter crumble, and we bought it yesterday-same day as the chicks. Brand new bag. They are on pine chip bedding. They aren't day old chicks-we were told they are around 2-3 weeks. We got them from a local chick seller, and I don't think they have a warranty or return policy on anything. They were closed today but I am going to talk to them tomorrow..

I was concerned about not being able to know the exact temperature after we lost the first 2 so I was going tomorrow to get a thermometer..I just hope these last 2 make it through the night!!

I'm so sorry. It sounds like you are doing everything right. They will move away from the lamp if they get too hot. Are they outside with the lamp? In a coop? What is the temperature outside where you are?

I'm really sorry. It sounds like you're doing everything right, maybe the chicks were diseased or something else that you couldn't do anything about.

We have had the same prob

Chicks just, die. We hav them on hay or just the bottom of a dog cage (Cleaned regularly), but they just drop off dead

We usually order 25-50 so it doesn't affect us much, but last time we had like 20 chicks die, usually its just one or 2

Wish I could tell you

I've decided that they just weren't going to make it anyways. Our Black Copper Marans that we got with them are thriving! (thankfully). We have put in an order for new day-olds from a different place, and will hopefully have much, much better luck with those!

Oh, so sorry. I am new to the forum and we have something in common. We too are doing everything right and we lost one yesterday and now are very worried abou the rest. Must have been terrible to lose them one by one like that. (((Hugs))) But as I read the forum I feel a bit better as it seems that it is not all a struggle that is not ours to win. If it were our babies would all thrive. Hoping you feel better soon. Sandra
