Hello from upstate NY!
One week ago today, we got 15 chicks and 4 ducklings from Tractor Supply. Today it feels like I've had them so much longer than a week. I didn't intend on getting anything. I only went to TS for dog food. Of course as soon as I heard the peeping I had to go over to the big troughs to see the little cuties. Next thing I knew, I was texting my future daughter in law, who lives with us, about wanting chicks. We both had talked about getting them but had decided to wait til next year. THIS year we were going to focus on getting the property ready for a backyard wedding! Oh well, life is short and who knows if there is ever a next year! We both agreed and went back to TS that night and bought chickens. We had never even talked about getting ducklings, but they were so adorable. We were only going to get about 1/2 dozen or so chicks and wound up getting 15 chicks (5 of them were only 50¢ a piece, how could I turn down that bargain?) and 4 ducklings!!
We have no idea how many hens and how many roosters we are going to have. Right now it looks as if we may have 2 roosters already! Yikes!
Every day they make me giggle with their silly ways. We are taking lots of pictures and videos of them as the grow. I can't believe there has been so much growth already! Looking forward to many more rewards by owning my own backyard chickens (and ducks).
