I just got 3 little chicks today. They were shipped out yesterday and arrived today - So I'm assuming they're 2 days old. I was told they are auricanas/americanas.. Is that correct? Legs are clean. They are very small, much smaller than my RIRs were when I got them. Are they the same as EEs? Most were striped, but not as gray as one of mine, there were a few all yellow ones as well. Thanks.

Yes! Those are amaracaunanas and they all look diff. so its Ok. I don't know why people call them E-aster E-ggers I think its dumb. People out there please start calling them what they are. Thank You.

P.S those chicks are adorable

UH OH-- You are gonna have the Ameraucana police on your tail. They are not the same as EEs apparently. EEs can be almost any kind of chicken crossed with Ameraucana. They usually lay green eggs.

okay, because I've read that americanas and araucanas are rare and can only be gotten from breeders, and that hatcheries often mislabel them, and they're actually easter eggers, so I just wanted to check. Thanks.

You are correct.
The hatchery stock are crossbreeds that carry the blue egg gene and have some Ameraucana/Araucana traits.

If it has green, yellow, or white legs it's an EE.
If it lays a green egg it's a EE.
If it's not one of the 8 standard colors listed for Ameraucana it's an EE
EE come in many different colors

Although some strains of purebred Ameraucanas can lay green eggs, it's not preferred. There is a standard for both Araucanas and Ameraucanas, so they are a purebred, and only come in certain accepted colors. The "Easter Eggers" are crossbreeds, aka mutts and come in many different colors. If it's labeled as an Americana/ Araucana, or reccomended for egg laying only, it's probably a crossbred.

But I'm not the Ameraucana police... I just own some purebred Ameraucanas, and some EE's and there's a HUGE difference.
Good luck with your peeps!
Edited for spelling.
