I didn't consider a rat cause I never heard of them burrowing into the ground, leaving earth trailings outside the burrow.
Sure looks like rat poop...next time lay a quarter down for scale in pic.Update- the traps did not catch anything. The bait (peanut butter) appeared untouched. The burrow was short and had two entrances. The feces of the animal was black and round, 1/2 the size of a pea. See photo. It had also tried to dig another hole beside the foundation of my house, but only dug 2 inches deep. See photo. It is still there. My dog is unrelenting in circling the kennel, trying to catch whatever it is.
