While I can't speak for chinese, I have a buff goose, and I believe for sure that they make wonderful pets. She (I actually dont know the gender, but have been calling my goose a she until I find out for sure.) isn't loud unless an unfamiliar person enters the yard or if she sees me coming with the food to feed her and her ducks. While she isn't really big on being petted (She does allow it but doesn't seem to care for it), she does follow me around the yard and doesn't mind sitting in my lap while in my hammock. She eats out of my hand and knows better than to bite hard or pinch when she does decide to nibble on something.
I can't say my goose has ever been destructive, but I have noticed they do like to chew on stuff occasionally. Though as I'll address below, they can be taught whats okay and not okay to chew on with some persistence.
Though while speaking of my goose, I do think that geese are individuals and temperament probably differs on the individual goose itself (Much like dogs.). If you pay lots of attention to them when they hatch and so forth after that, chances are they will make good pets.
I just HIGHLY recommend you teach your goslings not to bite when they hatch. I know they're cute and its hard to tell them no, but trust me when I say that if you don't you'll be feeling it later lol. Goslings seem to love to bite anything and everything that they can fit their little bills around, and if not taught at a young age, they will bite hard as adults even if they aren't intending to be aggressive. When raising my gosling, if she bit me I would respond by gently holding her bill shut with my fingers and saying "No". They catch on very quickly and seem to learn pretty fast too. Though while conflicting this, keep in mind that geese don't have hands, and that they do use their mouths to feel things and aren't necessarily always biting. Just teach them what its okay to "feel" and whats not okay. You can also get your goose some of those hard to destroy rubber dog toys. I have some for my goose that I've had with her since she was a gosling and she plays with those or the metal water tub handles rather than chewing on anything she could actually destroy.
