What are hawks afraid of?

I let the hens out for a while last night. I stayed outside as well. It wasn't even a half hour into their free range time and they all ran screaming for cover. It took me a few minutes but sure enough there sat a coopers hawk on the perimeter fence eyeing them up. I got within 12 feet or so before he decided he would fly off.

I watched a video where the farmers had many black chickens. He claimed that black chickens on the ground look like crows to the hawks from above, and won’t bother your flock. Can anyone vouch to that? I’m also losing many of my chickens to hawks.

I was told to get some fake crows because hawks are afraid of them.Is this true and is the anything else?

Crows are a handy food source for both hawks and falcons. Its just when crows gang up to persecute hawks that crows are a deterrence. Hint!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep your ears pealed for crow chatter. If you hear a murder of crows going ballistic I recommend that you check on your flock immediately, if not sooner.
