What are my geese doing ?

Today I was outside admiring my birds and for some reason they made noises for about 5 seconds then they ran and flapped there wings very fast to the other end of the small field, any explanation for this ??

Also what is the quickest way to fatten geese ? And what age do they start to lay ?

Sounds like they could be exercising wing muscles and attempting to fly. Even my non-flying breeds did this a bit.

I never tried to deliberately fatten mine. Most started to lay when about a year old, their first spring.

They may have seen a hawk or something flying that spooked them. If I'm raising geese to be butchered I mix chick feed, crimped corn, and oats equally. And put them on full feed. And plenty of water of course.

Depending on breed they will start laying between 6-12 months of age.
