We have been looking at options for coops for all these chicks we are going to hatch, and found a pretty good deal on vinyl sheds at Lowes. The wooden ones were cheaper but didn't come with primer, paint, shingles or ventilation or floors. Not to mention much more difficult to put together on my own.

What do y'all think about vinyl sheds for coops. They don't need paint, came with rooftop ventilation, floors, and windows and they were reasonably priced and easy to put together. And can be cleaned with pressure washer and come with 10 year guarantee. What am I missing? We live in CA so our weather extremes are high 20s to low 30s in winter (worst case) and 105 worst case for summer. Mostly stays between 40-90 year round.

I say go for it.

I can't see any draw backs, except of course the money, but if you are willing to spend it...it's not like I wouldn't want to spend money on my coop it's my DH who doesn't.

i got a rubbermaid coop at lowes a 4 ft x 6 ft i love it only thing i wish i had gotten one a size bigger.i did alot of checking to build my own priced materail and wow to much. my brother runs a place that sells wooden buildings but lowes had the rubbermaid for the best price. i have pic- on my page

There's one I like at Costco for $299. It's 6 foot high, 5 wide and 3 deep. Really good looking and I think it would clean out nicely. I was going to make a plywood floor to put in about 2.5-3 foot high, so I could put my feed and supplies in the coop under the floor.

A friend of mine just got a kiddy playhouse from Target and he's making it into his new coop. It was $129 and marked down to $64. It has four windows with a little dutch door. It's probably 4 foot high, 4 wide and 5 deep. I think he's going to put acrylic on the inside of the windows, hardware wire across the open floor and a couple of 2x2's across the back for roosts. Holes for vent' too. It even has window boxes for flowers.
