What Are Quail Good For?

the rice is regular yellow rice cooked in a steamer.
the quail over the rice, I simmered down in a crockpot with bbq sauce for 4-5 hours.
the pickled eggs, there are some great recipes around, I used Dirk's recipe posted around here somewhere with some added beet juice for the coloring.

boil eggs

soak in vinegar overnight

vinegar dissolves the shells making them easier to peel just the membrane the next day.

add favorite pickling spice, there are numerous threads here with recipes if you dig a little, then I added the beet juice.

and credit goes to whoever I pilfered the beet juice idea from...cause it is very cool.

with Easter coming up....

Ok, this is probably dumb, but I have no idea about quail.
If I hatched some egg and then raised them could they free range?? Also are they good for like eating bugs or something?
Like, you know how people use guineas to eat ticks, spiders, and weed seed? Are quail like that in any way?

they may free-range once, and probably won't come back. and not to generalize, there are different types of Quail, New World (NA Varieties) and Old World (European and Asian Varieties)

most are not a roosting type bird like chickens that hang out in one spot. in the wild their home range is the grasslands.

so, quail are not like guineas with the tick thing in the farmyard, but they do eat all types of insects and seeds in the wild.

and its a bummer first time you hear it but releasing Quail into the wild is more than likely against conservation efforts in your state.
