their is a lady a few miles out from me that has about 30 runners and my boyfriend and I just love to stop in front of her house and crack up at them running around and playing-she just laughs back at us. I love those ducks too

That makes no sense. Maple Leaf Farms has 16 million ducks. Culver has over 3 million ducks. Liberty Ducks and Grimaud farms are in the millions too. These ducks are not for the pet trade, but rather for eating. Last BYC poll had less than 2,000 ducks.
By the way, in case english is not your first language, the number of duck farms is not directly proportional to the number of ducks in total.
No duck is safe from a hawk attack. If the duck is too big to carry off, a hawk will just rip their heads off. Personal experience talking here. While my runner never got attacked, a hawk kill a buff and a welsh harlequin in my back yard.

That first quarter '10 chicken production was 8.68 Bullion pounds and that turkey was 1.28 Bullion pounds. As far as I can find they only bother to total duck production for their end of the year report. You have a right to be proud of your duck producers and I wish them nothing but the best, but I am not impressed by those numbers since the chicken factory/ farm down the road turns out 10 million chickens/ year and it is far from being the largest in the area. Do you really think a BYC poll is worth quoting? You will be glad to know that I have added you to my do not respond list. Bye!

Hey! Good Lord people, I started this thread to ask what they were bred for. I just wanted to know because DH and DS#2 want some, but I like to know the origin and purpose of what I am buying, just because I like to have little bits of trivia for people who come over. We dont need to get nasty or condescending with each other, keep it civil or dont post on my thread!
