What are the effects of loneliness on a separate chicken?

I would try two things, add the one hen at the bottom of the pecking order-put in with her for 48 hours, and set the cage into the coop after that for 48 hours then release everyone. Your re-starting a pecking order and all the attention is going to one bird, it's much easier on everyone to have 3, bare minimum 2 birds. My cage would not fit into the coop--so i sat it in the entrance to the coop, my buckeye got so excite to see the other hens she laid her first egg after 4 weeks of q.

Can you put the cage in the coop? Leave her in it for a couple of days so the rest of the flock can get used to seeing her again without being able to hurt her.

What a great idea! My cage can be moved inside the chicken run. I'm not so sure that putting her in the coop would be smart because our coop is infested with the mites. I'll try that idea!

Please.help me! It's worse! There's only one bird that my poor little hen can stay with out there. Those two peck at her to establish the pecking order but the rest... I want to know why they're trying to kill her. They all chase after her, corner her, and all at once go in for the kill. She's a screamy type of bird and squeaks often but this was desperation. Why are my other 13 birds trying to kill my poor little chicken? :hit:hit

I fed her a bit of egg but I'll try to give he more. The mites are pretty gone too... Yeah, I'll try the egg. That should help a bit.

I am having a similar problem. I have a 14 week old hen who is suffering from wry neck. I separated her for a little over two days to treat her. When the other 4 hens were free ranging in the yard, I brought her out to get a little fresh air and friendship. The rest of the flock immediately attacked her. I spent the rest of the evening riding herd on them so they couldn't get too close to her.

I borrowed a wire dog crate to put in their run so she could be with them, but they couldn't hurt her. It broke my heart last night when the 4 went in the coop, and I had to decide whether or not to put her in with them. She was clearly distressed that she couldn't go in...I ended up taking her into the house with me for the night. Poor thing doesn't need any more stress with her weak neck.

I put her back out in the cage this morning...I am hoping they will get used to her. Does anyone have any ideas on re-incorporating a chicken to the flock?

My little bird is still stressed and crazy about staying away from her flock. She hides in a nest box 24/7 and doesn't lay any eggs. She doesn't get down to eat, drink, or extract waste. I need to take her outside twice a day so she can eat and scratch around while I supervise. Yesterday night, she had blood around her comb. I suspect that either she got down and my other 11 hens ran in and attacked her because it was raining, or the 11 ran in because of the rain and were bored , so they chased my poor little hen while she was near the nest boxes. I'm sorry, that probably was confusing. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP! I want her to be with her flock, she sadly coos when she's alone. :barnie
