My first ever hatch of Jumbo coturnix will be 5 weeks old in a couple of days. They seem large, strong and healthy. I only hatched 10 of 57, and 1 of them died early. I am not seeeing any spots on the breasts of the 6 goldens and 3 browns. At least 3 of them are crowing. I am concerned they may ALL be males. They were shipped eggs from a quality breeder on this forum. The only explanation I can find for the poor hatch besides the hazards of shipping are that I only let them settle for about 10 hours.
The odds against a random hatch of all males are astonomical. If I have all males, it seems to me there has to be some environmental factors at work. Has there ever been evidence that hatching at less than ideal temperatures or humidity results in more of one sex than another?
