What are the pros and cons about ducks

Pros:
Fun
Big eggs
Eggs are better for cakes
Adorable
Friendly
Poop is easier to work with than chicken poop
Great in the garden
Don't mind rundown housing
Fairly quiet

Cons:
Slow
VERY messy
Poop smells TERRIBLE
Need lots of water
Most don't roost
Some breeds are LOUD

If I ever got ducks, I think Welsh Harlequins would be the ones I got!! They really are so beautiful!!! :love

That or Swedish. Those are cool too.

And just out of curiosity, are ducks really as nasty as people say they are???
Yes, they are as nasty as people say they are, and worse!

Can vouch for them being amazing egg layers, mine outperformed even RSL chickens. They take FOREVER to train to come in at night but once you teach them they'll remember home even if you say took them in the barn for the winter. They are very messy. You'll spend a lot of time keeping up on water if you don't have a stream or pond on your property for them. My Khaki Campbells almost never left the water once they were allowed to go swimming.

Oh, they get big really fast so keep that in mind when planning your brooder arrangements. 2 week old Pekin is probably as big as a 6 week old laying chicken and they will have an unbelievable throughput.
