I'm in the midst of building my coop and run for a dozen chicks, and am trying to decide if sand is the right ground material inside the run.
The run will be covered so rain is a minor issue (not counting big winds and such), the base is a driveway pack gravel, , but is slightly elevated form the suroundings, so drainage should be fine. We had rain all last week and I saw no puddling at all.
I have laid 1/2 hardware cloth under the entire run and coop so digging predators will not be a problem.
What are your thoughts? Sand a good idea? If so, what type of sand, or does it matter?
