What are the rules for gathering eggs for eating?

I am getting quite a few eggs and have hatched plenty for this year. What are the rules for gathering eggs for eating? Daily more then once a day? Is heat and issue, etc. I have not tried eating them yet but have about 15 eggs in each pen over the last couple of days so it might be worth trying to pickle or something. BTW I have Bobs and brand new to Coturnix. My bobs lay in the nests that they build but the coturnix don't, they push all of the hay out of their pens.

I eat all the eggs Lol. I don't care what the egg looks like or anything I just eat them... And Couturnix quail lay the eggs we're ever the urge strikes them

Gather eggs many times a day if you can, just to keep them cleaner and from getting cracked by an errant bird step.
Most eggs can stay room temperature for many days or even months depending on the environmental conditions.
If in doubt of an egg being around too long, float test it. The fresher it is the farther it sinks.....At least with chicken eggs.

Since we have ultra hot summers here I gather as often as I can, three or more times per day, though I've not found heat to be as much of an issue with eating eggs as much as with hatching eggs. I store them at room temps for a couple of weeks or more unwashed. I wash before eating or refrigerating. Quail eggs are wonderful fried (over easy or especially cute sunny side up), hard boiled, pickled, or deviled. They are a super party food and sure to spark conversation.

I too do the float test, if they bob too much the dogs get them. If they only bob a little I eat them.

Yeah the cots lay eggs everywhere! Though some are nice enough to put them in their dust bath or other "secret" locations, others just squat, then keep on walking. It's like an Easter egg hunt everyday since I don't have cages that self-harvest eggs.

It is 90+ here right now. I work during the day but I check before work, when I get home and then again before dark. I get most of my eggs after work but not sure how long they have been there by the time I get home. But of course they are out during the heat of the day.
