What are these birds doing?

Hello,

A couple of months ago I got a picture of three of my birds doing the strangest thing in my uncultivated garden. It's one of my old roosters and two of my younger hens. Does anyone have any idea why or what they were doing? I haven't seen them do it since and they all seemed fine but I am curious about this behavior.

Lol! They are sunbathing. It is perfectly normal for them to lay down in the sun like that. First time I ever saw it I thought the chicken was dead, but they are perfectly fine.

Oh, that makes sense! I've never seen them do it all piled up before. Maybe it was a particularly nice spot?
