So it's been fun & games here the past 2 days. My back neighbour recently acquired new chicks - Rhode Ialand Reds. They are now 1/2 grown pullets. Not a fan of RIRs but chicks are always cool. Anyway one idiot bird came over my fence. Noticed her when I went to check on my girls. Tootsie was out too so I thought I'd round them back up together & pop the RIR back over the fence. She was having none if it & scuttled into the scrub. I left it thinking I could try when she went to roost but I never saw her till the next morning when she was screaming in my side neighbours yard. Didn't want to know me. I climbed the fence to let the neighbour know & later that afternoon he arrived with a mate so my foster & I went out to help as she was really skittish. Opened the run & the coop & eventually we got her through the fence & into my coop. It was stinking hot & none of were happy with her but hopefully she's been scared sensible.

Up until the past few days I thought Anixe was a pullet. Despite the colouring she looked like a Wyandotte bantam: small rose comb, small wattles, light collar with a little lacing - & she/he/it held itself low like a pullet.
Now it looks to me like a saddle & hackles. The legs have thickened but no crowing. I have limited [very] experience with roosters. What do the experts think?​

Henry doesn't seem fazed & the girls are keeping him in his place. Very funny to watch.
So long as Henry accepts him he can stay. If not a lot of people round here take roosters to show so he won't necessarily end up as soup.​

The neck and sadle feathers are too pointy for a girl. The colouring is male too.
Not crowing now doesn’t mean he never will. He might understand he has to behave like a little boy to avoid fighting. maybe ask @Shadrach if you want advice how to keep him.

Yes, I agree @BDutch.*sigh* Shad will weigh in eventually. I've been reading Shad for years so I know multiple roosters is possible.

I remember you once saying young cockerels are very affectionate until their hormones kick in & I must say Anixe is being a sweetie. He sat in my cupped hand on my knee yesterday for quite 20 minutes. If he's like his dad he'll keep that sweet disposition.

They are growing well.
Pingu is the most relaxed about being handled. Maybe because she was helped out of the egg?

This little one is the flightiest.
Given that feathering she has to be one of Tootsie's but she doesn’t have Tootsie's calm & friendly nature.​

And this one is dusky cobwebby all over.​

Very pretty but I suspect it & Pingu of being cockerels. Their nature's are very different to the other. *sigh* Oh well, @ least I will have pretty roosters!​
