only chicken mites though. There are many, many more kinds of environmental mites that are harmless.

Chicken mites, red mites, northern fowl mites, scaly leg mites …

Whether a type of mite is in your dogs/cats ears, sucking blood out of your poultry, being brought in by rodents, killing honey bee's, or burrowing under human skin, mites are parasites & IMHO parasites are bad.

Mites ARE parasites, but not all mites are parasitic mites. Most are not.

I get it. You're very smart. OP asked what we thought they were & if they might harm her birds. I'm simply stating that I personally have never met a mite that wasn't a pain in the rear.

Your initial assessment they are bugs is correct. The mite discussion is off base at this point even though scarabs have their share of parasites that are also mites; the mites are very particular about the host they target.
