I am new to eggs. This is the 7th egg I have received since my first hen has started laying eggs about 10 days ago.

Blood spots. They are pretty common. When a yolk starts its journey through the hen's internal egg making factory the yolk is released from a membrane that supported the yolk while it was developing. That membrane is supposed to split along a line with no blood vessels but occasionally a hen has an oops. The commercial operations electronically candle their eggs before they package them for the store so they don't surprise their customers, that's why you don't see that in commercial eggs. Those eggs are sold to places that break their eggs before selling them, like pet food manufacturers or even bakeries. They are safe to eat but there is certainly a YUK factor. That is an example of why it is a good idea to always break our eggs before we mix them with anything.
