The last time I got red males from Ideal for warmth, they were red broilers. You will be able to tell in the next two months, depending on their growth.

There Production Reds.
Rhode Island Red chicks would be darker Red in plumage and beak color also a Rhode Island Red would have a lot less White.

To be honest aren't all breeds that come from a hatchery a Production breed?

I will also stick with Production Reds and I do not think there a hatchery "Rhode Island Red".

I just looked on Ideal web site there is a difference, they have RIR, Production reds and new Hampshire

I got some Production Reds roosters from Ideal for free, and I hated them! They were the only ones that would pluck feathers of other birds. We butchered all of ours, and they make an o.k. dinner. I sold all of my production hens, but one, They are feather pluckers too, but they lay a large brown egg.

I am aware that Ideal sells R.I. Reds, Production Reds and New Hampshire. I am also aware that Ideal says they sell "Ameraucana" chickens.
