What are they laying (expelling) ?

Two days in a row I have found this organic material in the nesting box. Looks like little pieces of boiled chicken. Yesterday it was covered with ants today it was not. Do hens expel anything when they stop laying? My girls are 2.5 years old and only two out of four are laying. What could it be? Please help. Paul
