Hi all, I just received 5 "Rhode Island Red" hens that I adopted from some first timers looking to move away and couldn't bring their beloved birds with them. Now 2 of them actually look like Rhode Islands but there are three that I am at a loss about, they are huge and the beautiful patterns in their feathers is mesmerizing to look at.I think they are a cross but I just can't place them! Here are the ones I think are Rhodes. iphone pics 007.JPG
and the oddball crosses I'm not sure about. iphone pics 001.JPG iphone pics 004.JPG iphone pics 005.JPG

I just don't think so respectfully, they are all 1 yr old and none of the Rhode islands we've had were this big and meaty.Their color is very oddly patterned and light for what I usually expect for Rhode Islands. The previous owners got them from Tractor Supply if that helps determine what they are. They were different colors as chicks from the other two which I don't think you would see from either hatchery or heritage Rhode islands.

What color were they as chicks?
Could it be possible that they are a red sex link of some sort? (Though, I don't think those typically get big either, but I dunno, maybe)
Edit: If they are a cross, maybe they are crossed with a RIR, but, I would not be able to even begin to guess as to what they are crossed from. Either way, still beautiful chickens

I never saw them as chicks but the previous owners said they were "brown" as opposed to the other chicks "red". Very descriptive.:gig I don't think they are red sex links, they don't have any white feathers on their back end.

oooooohhh waitwaitwait waitwaitwait wait! Could they be Dixie Rainbows? or some other ranger type chickens? I'm looking at Tractor Supply website and they look very close to them!!
